Detailed Description
The Litanies of Love is a beautiful book consisting of two long daily collections of prayers from the Qur’an and sunna and a list of the invocations that should be said after the prayers according to the sunna.
The first litany (Wird al-Katifayn) is essentially a string of all the major adhkar al-sabah wa ‘l-masa (the morning and evening invocations) whose spiritual effects (fada’il) are mentioned in the sunna, organized by subject.
The second litany (Hizb al-Bahr al-Muhit) consists basically of the three wonderful middle sized surahs recommended in the sunna to be read daily (Yasin, Waqiah and Mulk) together with a much-beloved supplication of the Litany of the Sea of the sixth-century North African scholar Abu Hasan Al-Shadhili and a number of shorter suras and verses of the Qur’an.
Two other litanies are also included: the first (Hizb al-Bahr al-Wasi’) is an expanded version of the Hizb al-Bahr al-Muhit with added verses for healing. The second (Du’a al-Khai’f) is a collection of prayers entirely from the Qur’an to help with fear of death.
As explained in the introduction and in the references citing the hadith sources, the graces, spiritual benefits and protections that result from reading these litanies and invocations are beyond measure. They lead, God willing, to a strengthening of certainty of—and love for—Allah.
